Advanced Therapy with Advanced Results

Stem cell injections work with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Unlike treatments that simply address the symptoms, stem cell therapy actually promotes repair of the body, restoring degenerated tissue.

At Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab, non-invasive medical procedures are the mainstay of our practice. Using the most up to date techniques, our staff treats patients as whole people, providing a comprehensive diagnostic assessment in order to design a customized strategy for relief from medical concerns in Newport Beach. Stem cell research, for example, has advanced to a point that, at BASIC Physical Medicine & Rehab, stem cell injections are part of our array of treatments, designed to help our patients attain their wellness goals and achieve a higher quality of life.

For instance, until recently, treatment options for people with osteoarthritis of the knee were limited. Steroid injections, joint replacement surgery, and physical therapy were often the only treatment options. Now, in Newport Beach, stem cell injections for knee osteoarthritis are available, at BASIC Physical Medicine & Rehab. Stem cell therapy also has applications for treating Achilles tendonitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, and degenerative arthritis.

Stem cell injections work with the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Unlike treatments that simply address the symptoms, stem cell therapy actually promotes repair of the body, restoring degenerated tissue. Stem cell injections also contain hyaluronan, which eases pain and restores mobility by lubricating joints and tendons. This therapy fits well with Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab’s integrated approach to wellness, addressing the source of issues, rather than just treating the symptoms.

One of our more effective forms of treatment is Cold Laser Therapy

Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab provides each of our patients with the best in non-invasive spine & joint repair treatments. Cold Laser Therapy is entirely safe and does not carry the risks and complications associated with long term pain medication use and surgery.

Cold Laser therapy – sometimes known as “class 4” laser therapy – uses specific light wavelengths to penetrate damaged tissue and begin the healing process. Our specialists can choose the exact depth that the laser will penetrate in order to target the root of your pain. When the infrared laser comes in contact with the tissue, the body begins to produce adenosine tri-phosphate, which the cells use for energy. This process stimulates the damaged cells, which then results in healing, reduced inflammation and pain, and improved nerve function and vascular activity.

The number of therapy sessions required to relieve your pain depends on the severity of your condition. The good news is that because Cold lasers don’t generate heat, this treatment option is completely painless. While some patients may experience a slight tingling sensation, many feel nothing at all during the process.

Effective Neuropathy Treatment

For those seeking a practical peripheral neuropathy treatment, Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab provides powerful healing therapies as part of an integrated approach to wellness.

The first step in developing an effective treatment plan for neuropathy is identifying the type of neuropathy you have. After obtaining your personal and family health history, we get many details from you about your current neuropathy symptoms. Then an examination will be performed. These items give us a lot of information about your condition. If needed, additional testing may also be ordered to further clarify your condition. Some examples of additional tests may include lab testing, NCV/EMG test (a measure of nerve and muscle function), evaluation of your blood vessels, or possibly an MRI.

Once our providers have the above information we will assemble a treatment plan specifically for you. For example, if we have identified that the nerves in your feet and legs are damaged we focus treatment on the injured area of the nerve. If we identify a problem with your balance then we will address that with treatment. Similarly, if we identify an injured disc in your lower back, then we will focus our treatment on the injured disc.

Unfortunately, many patients suffering from neuropathy may have several different sources of nerve damage. For example, a diabetic patient may have nerve damage in their feet AND a herniated disc in their lower back causing nerve compression. The key to treating these more complicated situations is proper evaluation to identify ALL sources and then focusing treatment on each problem, i.e. treating both the nerves and the disc in this example.

Depending on the cause and thorough diagnosis we may recommend Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy and/or laser therapy in our neuropathy treatment program. We have evaluated the benefits of countless treatments available for neuropathy, including laser, medications, lotions, creams, vitamins, acupuncture, and many others. Based on our research, our experience, and more importantly, the improvement we have seen in our patients, we believe we have assembled the absolute best treatment program available to those suffering from neuropathy.

At Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab, Spines Are Our Specialty

Which means our healthcare staff is specially trained to diagnose and treat the source of your back pain. All of our treatment options are all-natural, so you can benefit from your treatment without the risks and recovery time associated with more invasive procedures, such as back surgery.

Herniated or bulging discs can put pressure on the spinal nerves, resulting in pain down the back and legs. At Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab, we offer nonsurgical decompression to relieve this pressure and alleviate associated pain. Unlike more invasive options, spinal decompression requires little to no recovery time or powerful pain medications—so you can enjoy the results and continue to perform your daily activities.

Spinal decompression uses mechanical traction to gently stretch the spine. During this procedure, you will lay on a special table while our healthcare professional controls the traction device through a computer. A session typically consists of 15 one-minute periods of decompression with a relaxation cycle in between, for a total of 30 minutes.

Nonsurgical decompression causes a vacuum-like effect, which allows any leaking tissue to return to the spinal disc. The vacuum also increases blood circulation in the spine, which brings nutrients and oxygen necessary for healing. We will frequently recommend decompression in combination with other therapies such as PRP or Regenerative Stem Cell Therapy to enhance the ability of the discs to absorb the vital stem cells and growth factors that have been introduced into the injured area.

Patients report that decompression is a pain-free procedure; in fact, some even fall asleep during their session.

Surgery should always be a last resort when it comes to treating back pain.

An Advancement in Chronic Pain Therapy

Our healthcare staff is specially trained to diagnose and treat the source of your chronic pain. This treatment option is all-natural, so you can benefit from your treatment without the risks and recovery time associated with more invasive procedures, such as surgery.

Plasma makes up the liquid part of human blood, and it contains red cells, white cells, and platelets. Platelets exist in the blood all the time. They play a vital role in blood clotting during an injury and with helping the repair process itself. Once activated, they start releasing proteins responsible for healing, called growth factors. When platelet rich plasma is administered to a person, these growth factors speed up the body’s normal healing capability and may push it farther than it would normally go.

The 1st step of the procedure consists of acquiring a bit of blood from the patient, similar to a simple blood draw. Afterwards, the medical personnel uses a centrifuge to separate the PRP Treatment platelets from the blood.
The centrifuge process separates the blood into three components. The middle layer contains the heavily concentrated platelets and growth factors, and this is the part used for the procedure.

The 2nd step of the procedure consists of injecting the concentrated solution, rich in platelets to the area experiencing pain. Numbing medicine is used to relieve discomfort during the injection procedure.

Once the platelets are injected in the painful area, they start a powerful regenerative process. They start releasing growth factors, and these will increase blood flow to the area, and generate a healing process. Also, the platelets and growth factors send out signals, which calls in the body’s stem cells as well to promote healing.

Relieve Knee Pain With Supartz Therapy

Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab providers have extensive experience in knee pain treatment. We have pioneered the industry’s latest proven alternatives to surgery and steroids.

In the past, knee surgery and pain medicine were the only treatments available to decrease or alleviate the pain associated with osteoarthritis. Fortunately, these are no longer the only options. In fact, at Basic Physical Medicine & Rehab, we offer Supartz joint therapy to address this serious condition and allow our patients to return to their routine activities.

With Supartz joint therapy, our healthcare professionals will inject a purified solution of sodium hyaluronate directly into the affected joint. Because sodium hyaluronate is a natural substance found in the body’s cartilage, this allows increases lubrication in the knee—which, in turn, relieves the pain. Injections only take a few minutes, but our patients report that the results are long lasting.

Relieve Foot and Ankle Pain Without Surgery

The main purpose of the feet and ankles are to support the weight of the human skeleton which can be taxing, especially if you are on your feet all day. The pain and stiffness you feel in your feet and ankles can be debilitating if left untreated. This nagging pain can grow worse, eventually becoming so excruciating that you can no longer walk even short distances. Foot and ankle pain can restrict your mobility and limit your quality of life, but with our regenerative cell therapy, you can reverse the damage and lead a more productive life.

Foot and Ankle conditions we treat:

  • Foot & Ankle Pain
  • Plantar Fasciitis

Relieve Shoulder Pain Without Surgery

Your shoulder is a ball-and-socket joint in which the ball of your upper arm bone fits into the socket of your shoulder blade. The shoulder joint is commonly overused in sports activities that require repeating overhead movements like lifting weights, swimming, throwing or pitching, and swinging of the arms put a lot of strain on the shoulder. Even regular, everyday activities can damage the shoulder such as gardening, hanging curtains, carrying children, or even scrubbing the floors or walls. Often, injury to the shoulder is difficult to heal, and can easily become a recurring problem, even if the immediate pain has subsided. Once ligaments and tissues have been damaged, scar tissue and inflammation can continue to form and build. It is also common for the same injury to reappear, and flare up at later times. Shoulder injuries can now be treated with non-invasive, regenerative medicine procedures like Regenerative Cell Therapy. This is a revolutionary treatment option that has helped many patients avoid prescription medications, steroid injections, and even surgery.

Shoulder conditions we treat:

  • Shoulder Injuries
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Shoulder Degeneration and Arthritis
  • Bursitis

Relieve Hand and Wrist Pain Without Surgery

If your hand and wrist have been bothering you for some time, then you are at the right place. Pain and problems in the hands and wrists can be caused by injury, arthritis or other diseases and conditions. The bones, connective tissue and small joints of the hands and wrists are prone to several types of injuries. These injuries can happen in otherwise healthy joints – for example, a blow to the finger bending it backwards or jamming a finger causing the tendons to pull away from the bone. In other cases, a disease process may make an injury more likely. For example, wrist bones weakened by osteoporosis are prone to fracture. Many forms of arthritis and related conditions that affect the joints, muscles and/or bones can cause problems like pain, stiffness and swelling in the hand and wrist.

Hand and Wrist conditions we treat:

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Wrist Arthritis

Relieve Elbow Pain Without Surgery

The elbow functions to move the arm like a hinge (forward and backward) and in rotation (twisting outward and inward). Since most movements are a combination of these actions, you may sometimes find it difficult to describe exactly which movement brings on the pain. Tendons can be injured, especially with repetitive motions of the forearm, commonly found in tennis and golf players. This causes inflammation of the tendons and repeated twisting motions or activities that strain the tendon typically cause more pain. Range of motion of the elbow is also decreased because the swollen joint impedes it. Elbow pain can be very frustrating considering you use your elbow in so many ways, but with our regenerative cell therapy, you can reverse the damage and lead a more productive life.

Elbow conditions we treat:

  • Medial epicondylitis (Golfer’s elbow)
  • Post-traumatic elbow arthritis
  • Distal biceps tendon partial tear
  • Ulnar collateral ligament injury
  • Lateral epicondylitis (Tennis elbow)
  • Osteoarthritis of the elbow
